Sorry for the month without a post. I promise to try and do better. I know my last two post have had a serious video but these next few will take a much lighter note.

Life at the Glidden house is great, just blowing and going, but what else is new.

I recently attended a conference in atlanta where i was challenged to live a life worth making a story of. Robert McKee says that in order to write a good story you need three things. First you need a protagonist who wants something. second you need conflict. Thirdly you need resolution.

Right now im working on what my protagonist is wanting for, hoping that the resolution will come in the form of”well done my good and faithful servant.”

p.s. every good story also includes an airsoft gun. so go buy one and come play with us.

Jose Luis Miranda’s national attention has created problems in the church world that many of us are unaware of. A friend of mine, who is the pastor of a Spanish church here in McKinney, has told me of multiple conversations he has had with members of his church, who are being tempted to join this growing movement.

We live in a world that is looking for a savior; are we living missional enough to meet them were they are, and introduce them to Jesus Christ?

War Games

I’m starting an airsoft club. For those of you not lucky enough to know the pleasures of airsoft, let me enlighten you. Airsoft is like a BB gun, but it shoots plastic BBs. I was first introduced to airsoft in college. My roommate and i thought it would be fun to play paitball in the english hall. Obviously we could’nt shoot paint balls indoors, so we were faced with a conundrum. What to use instead of paint? BB’S! We went to wal-mart intending to buy red ryder bb guns. One problem with the bb guns though, the metal bb. While one pump from the BB gun may not kill you it can def break a window, and shots in the head really hurt. We asked the wal-mart sporting goods clerk if he had any alternate ideas. The words to follow from this sage of a clerk would change my life forever. “Airsoft“, he said quietly under his breath. Like Arthur in the sword in the stone, we pulled our pistol airsoft’s off the shelf and headed for the dorm.

Upon arrival my roommate and I were faced with one of life’s toughest questions. “i wounder how bad it hurts to get shot ” my roommate said while laying on his bunk staring at his new treasure. Clack, i unloaded the first round less than two feet away right into josh. His eyes watered as he winced, “it’s not that bad” and squeezed the trigger. Turns out it was that bad, at least for the two of us, whose shirts had managed to come off during the fire fight. While not intolerable, the plastic bb‘s certainly left a “lasting impression” upon impact. And so the airsoft war games had begun.

I’m older, wiser, and far more capable of creating really awesome airsoft courses now. So, if your up for playing some crazy war games, and want an affordable alternative to paint-ball, get an airsoft gun and find me. A friend and i spent the better part of a 3 hour meeting yesterday discussing all possible maps and course games. We plan on playing the first, of many, games this weekend.

Ramblings

Easter eggs are dumb, and easter egg hunts only perpetuate this dumbness. I’m not saying you can’t have easter eggs this sunday, I just don’t want to hear the phrase it’s not easter with out easter eggs. In spite of my thinking’s, Im sure that one day when I have a little one, we’ll have some “fun” “family time” looking for eater eggs, but right now I hate the idea of reducing easter to easter eggs.

On another, lighter note check out my new favorite band. Ben, the lead singer, is a great friend.

Finally, if you or someone you know is capable of building, fully operational, power supplying windmills and or solar panels, we need to talk. No this is not a joke; yes I do have an idea.

So my weekend started off early. The culmination of our prayers ended with the move of some great friends. Oh the “pleasures” of having a truck. Don’t get me wrong I would do almost anything for my friends, but I have never in my life seen so many “fragile kitchen boxes”, but I digress.

The day was really a great day; we had lots of help and a great time hanging out. One of the best things about the day was making a new friend named Malachi, the 5 year old grandson of our old small group leader. He was one of those kids that never stopped smiling, and his personality was infectious.

Sunday was a bitter sweet day. The church said goodbye to my friend Adam, and announced that I would be the new North Campus Children’s Associate. I’m really excited to get an opportunity to hang out and love on so many families. I’m going to try and use the blog as a tool for constant communication, so be looking for some new pages in the future.

Goodbye

Goodbye: Seems like lately it’s the only word I know. For the past five months goodbye has pierced every relationship I hold dear. From death, to loss, to war, goodbye seems omnipresent. I know for me goodbye isn’t the end, but right now it’s a painful reality.

In the midst of the pain, there is something else though, something stirring inside me, an uneasiness that I can’t explain. You see, I’ve only really experienced the pain of goodbye for about 5 months, but there are those who have known nothing else. Jesus I want you to come back soon, but if you come back soon then so many will say goodbye without a promise. A promise of a place where there is no goodbye. God, I long for the day when there are no more goodbyes, but right now give me the strength to find patience. Patience to find the very place your patience is overflowing on to the lives of sinful men, and in that place join you in the good works of your hand.

Grammar

Apparently some of you view bloging like publishing a book. So for those “special” friends I’ll make more of an effort to use punctuation, even if it is overrated.

Relay for life is April 27th. I’m excited to see our church embracing such strong community projects. If you’re involved at the North Campus and are not yet signed up, find me Sunday.
